Once the LCD display and a separate component, the backlight. The backlight is no longer available from Yamaha as a spare part. In the LCD display we offer here, the backlight is integrated. These displays are durable and robust. Notes on installation the Display in Yamaha Motif 6,7 or 8 :To replace the display, the Yamaha Motif is opened from the back. So the rear body of the case has to be removed. Afterwards the Powersupply, the DM board and a sheet metal frame must be unscrewed. Everything is scraped and only a Phillips screwdriver, preferably PH2 is needed. Now the old display can be removed. Before installing the new display, three plastic lugs must be removed in the display frame. These can be broken off with pliers, or cut off with a knife. Please do not forget to clean the washer in the housing.No soldering required.All you need is a screwdriver, flat nose pliers and side cutters.

The cover of the synthesizer can be lifted up after loosening a few screws. Now the circuit board on which the display is mounted must be unscrewed. The display itself is screwed on and the cable is plugged in.Snipping off the metal tab:The OLED display is inserted into metal brackets in the Yamaha DX5. A small metal tab needs to be snipped off here. This can be done using a pair of side cutters.Recommendation:Disconnect the circuitry that generated the backlight voltage for the old display. The potentiometer is construed for a power of 0,05 Watt.Appearance (technical characterisation):The casing measures 14 mm widht, the total length without pins is 25 mm. In this total length the casing is 7,5 mm long. On this casing is the thread with 5 mm length connected and out of the thread the axis rises with 12,5 mm length. The axis has a diameter of 6 mm and is flattened on a length of 7 mm. It is made of black plastic. Its head has a slot and ends in corner radius. The thread, which surrounds the axis, has the screw measure M9 x 0,75 mm.The seven solder pins are 0,6 mm wide (one of them) and they are arranged in a distance of 2 mm (pitch). The curved pins, which are sticking out to the front, are necessary for the electrical function.In medium range of the casing the metallic snap in connector is mounted. These connector will fix the potentiometer at the printed circuit board by pressing in.Between the two snap in holdings the distance is 15,3 mm. The holders latch in the board and fix the potentiometer mechanically.Useful hint:The volume control is soldered on the circuit board.
