In 2009, AKAI released the MPC5000 as the new flagship of the MPC series. The DJ sampler already had an internal memory of 64 MB at the time of delivery, which is expandable up to 192 MB. AKAI also expanded the MPC concept with a 24-voice virtual analogue synthesiser with 3 oscillators per voice. In addition, the unit has an internal arpeggiator.
In addition to the larger, graphics-capable, monochrome display of the MPC5000, there was also an ADAT interface, and an expanded effects section, as well as twice the number of so-called Q-Link controllers.
