Kurzweil
Kurzweil spare parts in first-class quality
Kurzweil Music Systems, founded in 1982 by Raymond Kurzweil and Stevie Wonder (that's the one), became known for building and selling high-quality synthesizers. With the first musical instrument Kurzweil released in 1984, the K250, they immediately broke the "quality sound barrier", as this device was way ahead of its time in terms of emulating a piano sound. Ray Kurzweil, then a manufacturer of readers for the blind, made a bet with Stevie Wonder to see if it would be possible to build a synthesiser that sounded like a real piano. The result was the K250RMX, a keyboard-less rack version of the later K250 synthesiser/sampler.
Until 1990, when the company was sold to Young Chang, a Korean piano maker, Kurzweil brought many more instruments to market. For example the "1000 series" as well as the "2000 series" became very famous.
