Batteries for electronic musical instruments

  - Note on battery disposal at the bottom of the page -

The batteries in synthesizers, samplers, drum computers, keyboards, and electric pianos are used to preserve the contents of non-volatile memory. The contents of the programme memories, preset memories, etc. are provided by a power source. In most cases, this is a sampler, or synthesiser button cell, often made from a pack of several button cells connected to form a unit, in other cases batteries that are visibly different in appearance and dimensions from commercially available batteries such as those in a television remote control, a torch, or an alarm clock. Batteries used in electronic musical instruments are much smaller, usually flat, and often have permanently attached cables or wires through which they can deliver the current.
The batteries for musical instruments discussed here all have one thing in common, even if they look as different as the devices in which they are installed: They are designed to last a long time, often at least a decade. The reason for this is that the manufacturers design the instruments to require as little maintenance as possible.
However, even the longest period of time will eventually come to an end, and the used battery in your synthesiser will need to be replaced with a fresh battery to ensure the proper functioning of the synthesiser in the future.

Replacing the synthesizer battery

You can find out if there is a battery in your synthesiser, or drum computer, by referring to your unit's manual. The indication to use a battery can be found on the first pages of the manual. If the battery is running low, this is usually indicated on the display of your instrument with a separate note. You should then also take action in order not to lose your settings, saved, self-created sounds and parameters.
Attention: Memory cards are also often equipped with a button cell battery to keep the stored data for years. If the battery in a memory card is empty, so is the memory card. The data is then irretrievably lost.
Replacing the battery in a synthesiser or drum computer always involves opening the unit. In most cases, the batteries can be found in more or less easily accessible holders from which they can be removed in order to insert the new battery. In some cases, however, the battery is firmly soldered to the main board of the musical instrument. In this case, the main board will probably have to be removed as well in order to desolder the battery from the back of the board. This requires some skill, but can often be done by the skilled user himself. In any case, however, the mains plug must be disconnected before opening the unit to ensure that it is voltage-free. Failure to observe this instruction can result in life-threatening injuries!

Buy synthesizer battery online

In our online shop, we have a wide range of different batteries for the various devices of well-known manufacturers.
Most device manufacturers use the same battery type in their different devices, e.g. CR2032, which is nevertheless offered in different installation devices.
Use the manual of your synthesiser to choose the right battery and order it in our shop. Only use batteries that have been approved and recommended by the device manufacturers to prevent premature power failure and thus data loss.
As a rule, you should consider replacing the installed battery every five years.
