If the keyboard rattles

If the keyboard rattles or makes unwanted noise

For years you enjoy the sounds of your electric piano, practicing virtuoso pieces, improving your skills at the keyboard. One day, however, you notice that individual keys are making a sound of their own. The keyboard of the beloved device begins to rattle, individual keys squeak, or produce a grinding noise.

Even with the high-quality, more expensive models on the market, such behavior is relatively common, and part of the natural aging process of an electric piano. Basically, it should be noted that this applies to all brands, sometimes more, sometimes less, and some models are more affected than others. Nevertheless, this is usually no reason to panic, because remedies are possible. In our qualified specialist workshop, such patients make up a relatively large proportion, which is why we have also developed a certain routine in identifying the sources of faults and remedying the causes of the disturbing noises.

The cause of keyboard rattling

Due to their design, keyboards, in order to provide a soft cushioning of the keystroke, or the swinging back of the hammer, are supported on a felt. This felt is compacted over the years, depending on some factors such as frequency of use and playing style, and thus loses some of its damping properties.

Hammer rest felt for Technics electric pianos
Here we offer two felts for the keyboards of the company Technics.
Hammer rest felt 1 is an item that is glued into the action of the keyboard in addition to the existing felt. This is usually done when the complete replacement is done by the user himself, because the complete replacement with hammer support felt 2 is quite extensive due to the special design of the keyboards of the devices, and should be done only by a specialized company.

Both felts fit the keyboards of the following models:
PR100, PR700, PR602, PR900, PX101, PX103, PX107, PX207, SX-P30, SX-PR700, SXPX-73, SXPX111,
Replacing the felt strip in your electric piano can be done by yourself for people who are skilled in craftsmanship. We offer you the replacement of the spare part in our specialized workshop. Here, trained staff will be able to take a look at the overall condition of your musical instrument and, under certain circumstances, take further measures, such as replacing the contact rubbers.
